KOTA BHARU: THE HEART OF THE CITY

The peaceful Jalan Hospital. On the right are local government administration offices, judicial court and a state museum. On the left side you may come across MARA and MPKB admin. offices as well as State Education Department .At the far end are Sultan Muhammad IV stadium and Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital.

Jalan Padang Garong, this road leads to Jalan Pengkalan Chepa and the airport,
approximately 12 kilometers away or 15 minutes drive. Tourists by air will definitely pass this road before entering the city.

The City main street, Jalan Tok Hakim. About a half and a decade ago the street was a pedestrian mall or Dataran MPKB with several wooden traditional designed gazebos and batik kiosks. Apart from that solat tarawih was performed in the area in the previous months of Ramadhan before move to Dataran Warisan or The Heritage Square, close to the stadium Sultan Muhammad IV. Recently back again as a main street to enhance economic development and to ease traffic flow. The new street surface and a newly built building on the right is Kota Bharu Trade Centre(KBTC) to mark that the place is recently redeveloped.

The city landmarks. On the spot we can see some historical marks, The Istana Balai Besar and The Royal Museum. Have a look at the two trees, planted since colonial period, the hazel nut and tamarind(asam jawa). Do not forget some tourist coaches park in the area to prove that
Kota Bharu is a tourists' choice. The coaches entered Kota Bharu with only passengers but left the city with passengers, goods and satisfaction!

The Muhammadi Mosque, a religious learning centre and one of the oldest in Kelantan. The multi storey building at the back is the Pelangi Mall comprises condominiums, apartments, a hotel, shops and food court. Giving way for development. In Islam, practise, spiritual, knowledge, faith and development should go in hands.
NEVER SEPARATE:
ISLAM AND DEVELOPMENT
ISLAM AND POLITIC.

A unique spot! On the right is Al Baraah Mosque, in the middle is a public rest place and on the left is The Pasar Besar Siti Khadijah or Siti Khadijah Central Market. More than 95% of the vendors are women. Everybody can do business. Leave it for a while to perform solat when you are called to do so, then continue with the business to search for the blessing.

The Business Centre: KB Bazaar is on the right, jewelery shops are on the left and
Pelangi Mall in the foreground

The main Trade and Business centre, the city's busiest street. On the right is the Siti Khadijah Central Market and KB Bazaar. On the left is KB Trade Centre Multi Storey Building housing The Giant Hypermarket and Parkson and jewelery shops and the Pelangi Mall in the far.

Bulatan Tuan Padang or the Round About, so calm before entering the busy part of the city

Kota Darul Naim
"The State Secretary and Administration"
Cool and fresh as surrounded by trees and plants and the administration
is as cool as the vegetation.

KB MALL, the main attraction, the one stop shopping complex

Another shopping complex, attracts housewives for fresh groceries and sea food.
On the left is Sultan Yahya Petra Bridge, linking KB with the districts of Tumpat and Pasir Mas.

Specialist Medical Centre, Kelantan Trade Centre, Perdana Hotel(under intensive renovation)
Opposite is the Stadium Sultan Muhammad IV

Kota Bharu The Islamic City, the capital and administrative city of Kelantan is a city that everyone loves. Calm and beautiful. Despite discrimination of information by the main media, both printed and electronic, sometimes by the emotional individuals, is developing moderately in her own way and style. Can be considered as unique and a main attraction for tourists. Ladies and Gentlemen, (adik kakak sekelian) do come down to Kota Bharu, witness it with your own eyes, feel the difference and walk away with satisfaction. In everybody's mind is
"bila boleh datang lagi"
or "KB I will be back soon".

GOTONG ROYONG and PULUT DURIAN

Students of SMK Pak Badol listening to a briefing before the gotong royong

Sir! No more litter, can we take a dip?

Girls too hate litter

Cleaning the Kubang Golok Mosque

Burnt out into ash

"GOTONG ROYONG" or working together in a group or helping each other is a traditional practise. It has been carried out since years especially in the rural areas to overcome problems, to enhance social interactions and economical.

On the 14th of July 2009, teachers and a group of student of SMK Pak Badol together with the local people participated in the activity. The above photos showing a group of boy burning garbage in a clearing the beach activity and girls are ready to give their helping hands. The girls were assigned to clean Masjid Kubang Golok, Bachok.
The above date needs to be remembered. It was a state holiday announced by YAB Dato' Tuan Guru Menteri Besar Kelantan to mark a by election day for the Manek Urai state assembly seat.

The below showing teachers and myself( wearing stripe shirt) after clearing the Bachok Graveyard and further below showing students in a similar activity.

PULUT DURIAN is a special delicacy to be served after the gotong royong activity. Actually it is a mixture of cooked glutinous rice, coconut milk, palm or white sugar and durian pulp. All the participants enjoyed it. The pulut durian to be served seasonally, only during the durian season, the king of fruits is abundant, much cheaper or perhaps no need to empty our purse to obtain it. The photo showing its ingredients.

THE LEADERSHIP COURSE

16-18 June 2009, Peladang Setiu Agro Resort witnessed the above programme and perhaps unforgetable dates to some participants. Approximately 100 school leaders of SMK PAK BADOL comprising Prefects and "Pembimbing Rakan Sebaya" participated under a close teachers and the resort's trained personel supervision. The programme included lectures, motivation, religious rites and physical activities. I had participated in a jungle trekking activity and found it so tiring but interesting especially to feast my eyes upon lush tropical forest, to discover its wonder and mystery.

I was amazed to see a shoal of fish, "ikan talapia merah" in a pond and snapped few photographs for my collection and to share with.

LONG VACATION AND THE LONG QUEUE

During the last school vacation I took my family to visit several places. We left KB on the 8th of June towards KL. Halfway we were caught in a long queue, exactly in the middle of the forest in Bukit Tujuh between Gua Musang and K. Lipis. An accident had occurred involving the 40 ton wagon, blocking the way. The mishap occurred as early as 5.00am, but the clearing of wreckage began at 2.00pm and completed by 6.00pm, 5 hours of exhaustive waiting. Thank to our police department for the initiative. The queue was estimated to be 10 km long and what a pity to see that several wedding ceremonies perhaps to be postponed or late. I saw quite a number of grooms still in their traditional attires fanning themselves for a cooler air. We reached KL safely by midnight and be with my double Cu the next day.

Back to KB via Cameron Highlands, a mountain resort famous for strawberry, varieties of fresh vegetables, flowers and high quality tea. After ascending a winding and a breath taking 50km drive we halt and enjoyed tea besides the tea plantation and then proceed to Brinchang, the highest and coldest spot of the area. My daughters were astonished by the appearance of orang asli and their dwellings that could be found along the route.

A score of years ago I neither didn't dare to go out after dusk until noon without sweater nor took shower without hot water, but not at present. The surrounding had changed, concrete buildings replaced trees, farm lands had taken over virgin forests and the increasing number of vehicles pouring into the area.

SUNSET AT BATU FERINGGI

25th Mei - 28th Mei 2009 I participated in the 48th National Conference on Education Management for Malaysian Secondary School Principal which was held in Bayview Beach Resort, Batu Feringgi, Penang. "Outstanding Leaders Create Excellent Schools" or Pemimpin Unggul Membina Sekolah Cemerlang" was chosen as the theme. The Conference was inaugurated by The Deputy Prime Minister, YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who is also a Minister of Education. Approximately 550 principals all over the country attended the conference. As a host, PKPSM P. Pinang had thrown everything to ensure that the conference ran smoothly. The conference coincided with the Second Conference of the ASEAN School Principals. They were at the launching ceremony, joined our dinner later and show their talent on stage as well.

I was given a luxurious room facing the open sea( Andaman Sea) and took the opportunity to fascinate and sharing an astoundingly beautiful evening scenery. SUNGGUH INDAH KEJADIAN ALLAH. Below are photos I managed to snap while relaxing at the balcony waiting for Maghrib time

The photos from the top to the bottom:
Top: 6.45 pm
Below: 7.00 pm
Second bottom: 7.15 pm
Bottom: 7.25 pm, Maghrib, time to be with Allah.
